It's not about the inches... It's about the adventure...
Welcome to Rod n Arrow Outdoors!
For many years I would sit in the back country of Montana during September pondering how I could share all my experiences and close encounters with Mother Nature. This time of year is synonymous with the majestic bull elk bugles echoing through the high country pines and the Aspen's filling the autumn air with vibrant shades of fall. The unpredictability of the weather makes for picture-perfect conditions for any outdoorsman. But the true test lies in the moment it all comes together and success is so close you can taste it. And the months following are spent sharing the stories and partaking meat harvested at the work of the DIY public land hunter. Thirty-four years later, I want to give back to the outdoors what opportunities it has provided for me… That is how I introduce RnA Outdoors.
Our concept is basic, keep the outdoors simple. There’s no doubt the outdoors can be challenging at times and the highest and lowest emotions can work on your consciousness. But that helps define why we do what we do year after year. If you’re like me and lucky enough to have multiple tags in your pack every fall, it goes without being said that you are in for the most grueling and testing couple weeks of the year. From winter conditions including snow and hail, to Indian summer environments consistent with July temperatures in California, preparation is the key to success. Over the last 15 years, the way I prepare for fall hunts has changed and evolved into a process. Not only is physical conditioning a critical piece to my success, tuning of archery equipment starts months in advance to ensure precise and quick take of the animal. Ethics and respect have turned into something of a pastime, which is the privilege that should not be taken for granted… Hence why we need to be vigilant stewards of the outdoors and protect the values instilled through the conservation efforts from our founding public land fathers.
RnA Outdoors looks forward to sharing hunting, fishing and outdoors experiences, as well as thought provoking and engaging insights through this blog. We are developing an audio digital platform of podcasts with experts in the industry to broadcast our cause for protecting public lands and keeping the needs of the DIY hunter in focus. I’ll leave you with a quote from Theodore Roosevelt that helps frame our mission... “I recognize the right and duty of this generation to develop and use the natural resources of our land; but I do not recognize the right to waste them, or to rob, by wasteful use, the generations that come after us."
